One thing I just noticed is how poorly drawn Sugar, Ginger and Pepper are compared to everyone else. But it was probably done on purpose XD

BTW, I was on Wikipedia today, and the figures that come with the special $200 set are apparently 12cm tall. Just thought I'd add this in 'cause I was told they were "life size".

Glad to see that they are keeping the good quality animation for this OVA,there have been quite enough bad animation on series already and UY deserves the best

It's gonna have to be fan-subbed. The OVA's would need to be licensed by Viz Media if we are gonna see any official subs. There hasn't been any news on that yet, but Viz was cracking down on scanned manga very recently, so I'm keeping my hopes up.

AtaruLumFan: it has been STRONGLY suggested by Those-Who-Would-Know that there IS a Region1 release in process, but no-one's allowed to Officially Say just yet.
I expect a modest increase in new traffic here at Lum-chan.com (and at the NorthAmerican bbs) as this new OVA hits the video hosting sites and a whole new generation gets to see how good UruseiYatsura is. However, I don't expect this increase right away; it'll take time for fan-subbing, timefor the vid' to hit YouTube, and even then only one out of, what, maybe 1,000 (?) will get curious enough to go searching for More Information ....

Precious as it is for us, explaining the point of UY to marketing execs might take ingenuity. Maybe give it a memorable and catchy English name audiences can relate to better. The title's pun doesn't work all that well in our language.

I prefer the more romantic comedy parts. Deeper stories make for variety, but nothing beats the girl hunts that end in hilarious failure. :D

And, I'll concur. No subs. For THAT, you gotta wait for the Region-1 release (here in North America) or a release targeted at UK audiences. And, while no-one is saying directly just yet, it's a safe bet that there will be a Region-1 release of the series.

Yes, there is a cameo of Lum in the Ranma 1/2 OVA. It's not very good, she's partially off-camera from the very beginning of it. I'll work on getting a screencap.
Yes, those are screencaps from the UY OVA. Those are not my doing, just for the record. Shinobu catching a deathtrap of school desks only to receive NO help from the surrounding boys (instead they applaud appreciatively, making her angrier), Mendou getting his head caught in Ran's shoulder-fired cannon, and the first reveal of Lum in her swimsuit.

Oh my god... I think I've just fallen in love again. If there's one thing that I completely love is when TV shows pick older characters to star in later episodes. It feels like they are something more than just characters, you know?
Btw, Ran's original seiyuu has passed away and I would like to know who's going to play her.

Cata: You Inoue, Ran's original VA, left the series midway through (to spend more time with her then-new immigrant husband [a Nepalese, I think?]). She was replaced by Kazue Komiya, who continued to voice Ran-chan through the conclusion of the series. Ms. Inoue returned to UruseiYatsura in the voice of Karla from the 5th movie.
You Inoue died in 2003 after losing a long battle with Lung Cancer.
I assume Ms. Komiya provided Ran-chan's voice for this episode.

The Ranma 1/2 OVA is quite excellent. I've made a point of staying away from Ranma 1/2 so far, fearing I could probably become a fan of it as well (and there goes the rest of my money), even 'though it lacks the star-power of a character like Lum.

After watching UY for the first time, I felt the same way. But I got bored and watched it several weeks later =P Ranma 1/2 isn't gonna try converting or anything

I really should say this: UY is my favourite out of RT's work. I never thought that Ranma, Inuyasha or Maison Ikkoku could take UY's place in my heart and I still think the same way.

There's a slight chance, but I haven't seen enough of those to have much opinion on them.

The only reason I don't like Ranma... is because of Ranma... Saotome... and the lack of (more & good) comedy.
But that's just me...

Ranma is like a UY world of another dimension.
Happosai = old Ataru (but annoying and not funny)
Male Ranma = non-perv Ataru
Female Ranma = Ryuunosuke (without the wish to be a "real" girl)
Akane = Shinobu
Shampoo = Jealous Lum
Ryoga = Inaba but more "agressive"
Kuno = Dumb Mendo
Mousse = Megane
Sasuke = Chibi
Kasumi = warm-hearted Oyuki

It's more based on the fights and quarrels between characters. And it as a feel of pure randomness...

Ranma ½ and Urusei Yatsura are like brother and sister to each other as series.
I prefer Ranma ½ but Urusei Yatsura is nearly equal in terms of quality and appeal.

Isn't it a bit early to rate Rin-ne? It's still somewhat new, compared to all of the others,and it doesn't have an anime yet.
About the other though:
- Never seen Inuyasha
- Maison Ikkoku is the most romantic of the 3
- Ranma 1/2 is the funniest of the 3
- Urusei Yatsura is the middle, not as funny as Ranma and not as romantic as Maison Ikkoku, but it was my first anime, so it'll always be special for me. :p

I think UY has better characters and better plot (yes, it does have a plot).

The others... have too much cheese or no cheese at all... XD

It's hard to tell that all RT work is not the same, because its the same creator, so the behavior of the characters from different anime is almost the same. But the main characters are change in each anime... :P
So to say that Ranma 1/2 and UY is different is hard to say, because they do have some similar behavior... lol
But I'm still a fan of UY more than Ranma 1/2.

I started watching UY because of a picture of, what I thought, was Ranma and Shampoo, that was the picture for the famous AMV by Lumcollette "One Day One Dream - Urusei Yatsura" (Two of RT's best anime joined together ^_^)

As far as I looked, I've only seen 2 on YouTube, one has black bars, and this one which doesn't have black bars. :icon_mrgreen: The quality could be a TAD bit better, but I think it'll be fine for most viewers:

Wish I had the $157 dollars extra to purchase "It's A Rumic World" DVD set. But am saving to purchase other anime series' such as Sekirei, Sgt Frog and a few others.

Even with my awful understanding of Japanese, I was already able to spot 2 flukes in their translation. Edit: Make that 5 or 6 in the first 3 minutes... >_<

Although I much prefer it with English subtitles with good quality, Spanish subtitles with bad quality is acceptable, since its taking time for anyone to pick this up, and sub it I will watch it in Spanish. What I'm interested more is the content itself, the video quality comes second and besides if it comes out I'll download it as archive. I learned Spanish and English as two different things but I can do something, like giving you a translation scrip.
But be aware, I you want to make this happen instead of someone else doing it, you HAVE to take things seriously. Someones needs to take over and find people willing to cooperate on their respective roles. Until then, I will wait until someone steps up for this project to take part of it.

Rename "Urusei Yatsura Ova 2010.jpg" to "Urusei Yatsura Ova 2010.srt" after download, because the attachment system here allows only picture extensions.

Currently I have half of the script done, I started translating with out watching the OVA prior and once I saw my progress with the raw I was Impressed how everything fit in.

but you are right, as I am checking the what's in Spanish this is very inaccurate, so much that I've had to hear what was said in the episode. for example, when mendo's head is trapped the translation said "help me" instead of "Waa!...It's dark! I did say POSSIBLE in my description, didn't I? (looks up at last post ... yes, I definitely did say POSSIBLE). Nothing is confirmed. There is a strong resemblance there though, don't you think?

Since you're a member there (I assume), you might want to tell that poster that there IS a POSSIBLE cameo of Megane in a crowd scene in the OVA.

I think it is possible (there are many cameo scenes of other characters), that the guy is megane. The name "Megane" is only given on the TV series. I heard in the manga the guy hasn't a name.

just in the last episode of the Anime it's "revealed" that his name is SATOSHI !
The other names of the Stormtroopen are:
- Perma = Kousuke (this is the one we can find on the manga too);
- Kakugari = Hiroyuki;
- Chibi = Akira

I wathed this OVA yesterday and I was well impressed. The Animation is completely different but it's something that's easy to get used to. I think it has every bit of magic that UY had (and still has) and most characters appeared. I think I would have liked to see Kurama there but at least Kitsune didn't appear. xD
I think the seiyuu picked for Ran was awesome. Not the same Ran but definetely not a bad one. =)
I thought Shinobu's voice was different but maybe that's just me. Ryuu had tons of lines and since I'm watching One Piece, I was constantly thinking of Luffy everytime she said (yelled) something. xD
The subs I watched were a fansub obviously because it was full of mistakes. For example: Ryuu was yelling "I'm not a man!!!" and the subs were "I am a woman!!!". Not a big mistake but it still killed it for me since there were tons of mistakes.
The only big flaw on the story was this: what was the point for the teacher to make up an obstacle course? Was to injure students so he would get his revenge for being hit so many times? I felt like I had missed 5 or 10 minutes of Anime when I began watching it.
Finally, I hated the censoring of Lum and Ataru's kiss.

Subs full of mistakes are better than no subs at all when you are not fluent in Japanese. I hope that one day an experienced fan subber or a professional subber will sub this OVA. I know I haven't watched the TV series in a while but I could have sworn Ryuu said "I am a woman" or "I'm a woman" when her and her dad get into arguments.

In the actual series, she says "ORE WA ONNA DA", meaning "I AM A WOMAN!". In the OVA, she says "ORE WA OTOKO JANAI!!!", meaning "I AM NOT A MAN!!!".

I worked together with the German Fansub Group "Freebooter-Anime", they released the german fansub on 30th August 2010 and they corrected many mistakes. They said Urusei Yatsura is hard project ^^.
