In the first quarter of 2009 I will move the complete Lum-chan.com domain to a new hosting company. Due to the ending of webhosting provided by my current hosting company I'll move all content to Strato Webhosting. This is good news for the website itself as we get new possibilities for the website.
At this moment there's not much info on when the transfer to the new hosting will start, but I'll try to keep you informed as good as possible in this thread.
During the process you might experience some downtime on the website/domain. This will only be of temporary nature...
-
new possibilities? do you think uploading the episodes might be one of them?
-
Uploading the episodes has legal issues before web-based ones, so I seriously doubt we'll ever see that happen in this website.
Still, I'm curious on the new possibilities... ;D
-
Hey, if we uploaded them all to youtube and veoh, I don't see how we couldn't try it here :D
So what kind of "new possibilities" could we expect?
-
Our Forum is growing up... :') Please Lum-chan keep us informed! ^^
-
Episodes and Movies will _not_ be available on this site due to legal reasons. I have asked for permission but the answer is a straight 'NO' from Viz/Manga Entertainment. I took a great risk when making The Complete Musicbox available to anybody :o
I'm working on several new additions to the site, but hey, I'll say nothing special on this. Is a surprise :D
If you have suggestions, please note them here and I'll see what I can do to make it happen.
-
hmmm what about a section that uses Embed videos? I know that we can post youtube links in a post, but that takes up a lot in a post doesn't it? and then there's the matter of scrolling to search for the right episode. And there's a limit to have many episodes can fit in a post so you have to wait for a reply before posting more embed videos!
It would be easier if a section was created similar to this one: http://www.dbzepisodes.co.cc/dragon_ball_z,4.html so episodes are easily accessed.
-
Legally, there is no difference between hosting pirate video on a website, and linking to the same hosted on another site. You're making them available to the public either way, regardless of whether or not it gets noticed.
On another note, I'd like to brag that my webhost for my site gives me 10 gigs of both space and bandwidth, and I pay absolutely nothing for it. The only thing I pay for regarding my website is the domain registration. Aren't you jealous? :)
It's nice to have connections.
-
I wouldn't say jealous... I mean... I don't need 10 gigs of space/bandwidth of a website. What would I use 10 gigs for?
Going back on topic, what about a section for the manga?
-
Same as the episodes, legal issues.
By the way, who has the rights of Urusei Yatsura in Europe? From what I see, Viz/AnimEigo seem to have the rights in the U.S.
-
I heard Stan Lee has/had some of the copyrights.
-
I've heard something along the lines of Stan Lee having rights to UY somewhere before, though I don't remember where. What I want to know is where the source of that information is, because I can't find anything to confirm it anywhere.
Oh, and regarding the 10 gigs of space, I actually use it more as a place to backup my important files on my computer right now than anything else. The main reason I have the UY manga stored there is because I don't want to have to go searching for them again as I work on UYRemix, and need them for reference. Everything else on there is a placeholder until I properly rebuild my website, or just me using it as an image host (easier to FTP it than it is to use imageshack or any other site like that.
-
I have a suggestion but I think it's not that cool. Anyways, I'm a member of a few Forums and I've noticed that some have an "Avatar Gallery" where users see the avatars and they can pick one of them to use as their avatar. Everyone has their own avatar whether it is Anime/Manga related or not. But I think it would be cool if our Forum had this feature.
I think Dak would apreciate this a lot... Or maybe not. xD
-
I kinda like dak's current avatar. Seriously, I think he's made it his own.
-
I know the "no avatar" is his personal avatar. I'm not criticizing him. Maybe the new members have an hard time finding the right avatar for them so an UY avatar section would be a good option.
-
¿Maybe a youtube [TAG] in forum?
It can be in a special category with password for users exclusive use.
I don't know...
-
¿Maybe a youtube [TAG] in forum?
There are 195 times 3 parts, that's 585 videos in a single forum. Not only is it too much for a single post, scrolling takes forever.
-
#Invalid YouTube Link#
You mean something like this dany? ;D
Offtopic: Just picked this video for the kicks. :P
-
Within a few days the domain for this site will be moved to my new provider. This can result in an error message from my new provider. As soon as this happens, I'll start to re-activate the whole site again. This might take some time. Don't worry, it will be back online as soon as possible!
-
ok then lum-chan, good luck with the moving :)
-
Does that mean that the Forum will be offline temporarily?
-
sure cata.
lum-chan will need to upload his backups to the new host, and configure the redirections stuff.
it will take around 24 to 48h maybe
-
Oh no! How am I going to live without "my" Forum for two long days? (Ironically, I've been absent for way more days than 2... lol )
Thank you for keeping us posted, Lum-chan. =)
-
I just started to backup the database (about 300 mb's). This should work ok (I hope). MyPHPAdmin is such an ass with large DB's but I am trying to make a new backup of this DB.
Local backup of all content has been done this afternoon, so the most precious part (the DB that is) is being backupped at this moment.
I'll keep ya posted!
-
Thank you as always, Lum-chan! _/-\o_ _/-\o_ _/-\o_
Offtopic: by-the-way -- Cata: your avatar isn't showing up for me any more (been like this for a couple days). May want to check this, and may want to wait until after the Big Move is done.
-
Offtopic: I can see her avatar just fine
-
Veehive that's strange... I can see every avatar in this Forum... I'm going to change my avatar, tell me if you see it now, ok?
-
i can see it O.o
-
Offtopic: Avatars are showing up just fine ;)
As the time comes near, I'm making automatic backups every 5 hours until the domain has been moved. I'm doing it this way to make sure all posts are copied as well. Of course it might happen to lose some posts after the last successful backup and the moment the domain-content goes offline ;(
As soon as I see the actual move to my new provider I'll change the paths in the several configuration files of the forum-software and restore the last/newest backup of the database.
I'll try to make this happen as smooth as possible. You might experience some errors while I'm working on several settings.
Expect a total downtime for at least 24 hrs but I'll try to keep it shorter (I hope) but as soon as the basis is up and running, I'll make a global announcement on the progress :)
-
As I wrote my previous post I have uploaded all static content to my new webspace. This includes the full forum-software and all galleries and miscellaneous files. The backups are now being made each 5 hours but not restored until the domain-switch is complete.
After restoring these, the only thing left to do is to remap the several sections to the correct sub-domains, reconfigure several files/settings and reactivate the whole site again.
If this goes well than not only I'll have no sleepless nights anymore :P and you will be very, very happy to regain access again to TWoUYL.
I only hope this won't be necessary again in the upcoming years (another 10?)
-
Could you lock the forums after a back up and before the transfer begins to ensure no one posts and therefore no posts gets lost?
That, or you could tell us when it's ABOUT to happen and then we just don't post until confirmed new server.
-
the SMF foruns can be locked in maintenance mode, where no normal user can post. ;)
-
Cata: new avatar showing up perfectly. Nice pic', too.
~vh
-
That's good news Veehive. I'll keep this one so you can see it. If I have to change it again, just say it. ;)
Thanks. Actually I've found it yesterday and I've been looking for a long time for a nice pic with these four characters but not as in an episode.
I'm really excited about the "new" Forum!
-
The main problem is I don't know the exact date/time when the domains are transferred. An few minutes ago I tried to use the new database externally but that isn't allowed :-\
As I'm working I automatically make a backup every 5 hours, but I can't prevent the possibility for losing a few posts. I'm sorry. I'm completely depending on both providers for the transfer regarding the time of transfer...
I'll see if I can get some more info on this.
-
[UPDATE]
I magaged to move ALL data and Databases to the new provider. As the domain-name lum-chan.com still resides on Lycos, I redirect any page from the lycos version to the master-url of my hostingspace. Cookies aren't working until the domain has been transferred, so you have to re-logon every new visit to the fora :(
You can post messages ans such without being afraid to lose these again. The forum-software already makes new use of the new databases @ Strato AG \(^_^)/
The following things aren't working yet :(
* Image galleries
* Guestbook
* Site Search
* E-Mail
These will be fixed as soon as the domain transfer is complete.
Phew!
[/UPDATE]
-
(UruseiNeo) I forgot my password XD I always stay logged in. When the cookies come back, will I be able to use it again or do I have to reset the cookie?
-
After the domain-transfer is complete I will have to do some extra maintenance and: yes after that, you will need to reset your cookie for this site.
Sorry about that.
-
Fixed up to now:
* Missing avatars
* Picture Galleries
* Guestbook is temporary using old database... Sorry
* Donation Section should work again (wrong permissions)
Updated Site History -> More to come ;)
If anything not mentioned above isn't working or gives php or other errors, please post them in this thread _/-\o_
Hey! I'm working on most of the thingies :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:
-
hey, congratz! :)
-
Hmmm, I noticed that clicking that picture when you first enter the site (The one where Lum is lying on her side with chibi UY cast around her) well I noticed that it doesn't take you to the "home page" like it used to.
Also all my short cuts keep taking me to that page but I have no idea why that would even happen, nor do I see how you'd know how to fix that -_-.
-
Correct noticed. These problems are automatically fixed when the domain-transfer is completed. No worries.
Edit:
DON'T RESET YOUR COOKIES YET. I'M TRYING TO FIX THIS AS WELL
-
Well, good new for all you guys/galls. The Domain-Transfer is completed. All original sub-domains are available again. This means two things:
1) Cookies should be working again. I didn't reset my cookies and didn't need to re-login again. If you can't login, then you may need to reset your cookies for the following (dub)domains:
* www.lum-chan.com
* www.lum-chan.com
* guestbook.lum-chan.com
* cmb.lum-chan.com
* images.lum-chan.com
In most cases you don't need to reset your cookies...
2) All content is available again and all your local created shortcuts will work again _/-\o_
If you think something isn't working as it should be or you get errors, please post these with info in this (http://www.lum-chan.com/index.php?topic=1447.0) thread. I'll try to fix these as soon as possible.
-
Thank you Lum-chan! This new Forum's look is making me think about Winter, snow, ice and it's making me feel cold, actually but despite that it really suits the Forum. I think it is easier read posts and such.
-
@cata: what is the URL you're using for the forum? It should be http://www.lum-chan.com/
If you use the temp URL, then you get a white/blueish theme... That's the wrong one (and URL) ;)
Edit:
My bad! The Default (blueish) theme shouldn't be available. Due to some problems on the default settings and the repairs it came available. It wasn't supposed to be....
-
I guess it's fixed now. =) Anyways it was cool to see the Forum in a icy "outfit". xD
Another problem fixed. ^_^
-
If you like it, it seems to be one of the options "SMF Defult Theme"
-
well, i still see it as black, i hadn't any problem with that.
-
If you want to, I can enable it to choose from. Only the greenish layout of some parts of the site won't match well with that theme (SMF Default Theme).
-
I don't mind at all that the Forum is green (even my soccer team is green! xD) I was just saying that it was a nice surprise to be expecting green and it turned out to be white and blue.
