Title: New or old anime? Which 1 u prefer?
Post by: foxhead556 on March 25, 2011, 04:14:37 AM
I been wondering which type of anime do you guys prefer overall? For me i prefer the oldies like Patlabor over the newer ones like gurren lagann for some reason. Like for example I can't watch a few mins of gurren lagann since i just start to get bored and then i close the tab. So which 1 do you guys prefer?

I don't care when that Anime was made. I'll watch it if I think it's good. I can watch Hajime no Ippo and then Naruto Shippuuden. It's not that much of a big deal to me. =)

A true anime fan would never close the tab on an episode of any anime (unless it frightened them, disgusted them, felt wrong, etc).  Make a commitment to watch the whole episode, it's only 20 minutes of your life.

Also, I think a better option than "a lil of both" would be "age doesn't matter to me"

"A true anime fan". WTH? If the Anime is being completely boring, why not? It's a complete waste of time!

You can never know what is a waste of time until you complete a full episode.  If you don't like it after that, put it in the drop list, but it's insulting to stop part way through, you never know what might happen.

Some series actually take a few episodes (to get set up) before things start getting good. However, you should at least try to get through episode 1.  You are assuming that because you are not into it half way through episode 1 you CAN'T like it after seeing the end of the episode. But if you DO end up liking it, then tell me HOW it is a waste of time?

How many people would have given up on UY if they decided to stop after the first half-story?  However these people chose to continue into the second half story and began to like it, and so became a fan!!!!!

I'm like new anime... yet I like some of the old animes (if they are at least visually good).

I agree with UruseiNeo. I know I sometimes watch anime just to pass time at work but even if I don't like it I go to the end of the episode and sometimes to the end of the series... because you can't judge an entire anime just by a few minutes of 1st or random episode.

Well there is Hentai that after a few minutes I close the tab... I mean... Who the hell came up with the idea of tentacle rape? ;D  :nosmile2:

When I said closing the tab in the middle of an episode, I didn't meant it was the first episode. I have a rule of 5-7 episodes before I drop something. However, I admit that I dropped Anime just by looking at the first episode: Shigurui. I was SO bored that I dropped it. I watched the full #1 episode twice but I still couldn't get what was going on because the Anime is so dark and there's not that much of a dialog so I couldn't really get myself to watch more episodes, so I dropped it.

The first 2 or 3 episodes are made to be watched until the end but after that, do whatever you want with the tab. xD

I prefer to watch newer anime because it has more up to date music and better animation. I prefer the newer character design styles to older ones. Some of my favourite anime: Martian Successor Nadesico, Trigun and Neon Genesis Evangelion are from the 90s.

Who the hell came up with the idea of tentacle rape? ;D  :nosmile2:
Tentacle rape was invented by Katsushika Hokusai in the early 1800s in the woodcut 'The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife'. It was revived in 1987 in Urotsukidoji by Toshio Maeda as a way of getting round the law that made it illegal for manga to show male genitals and it proved to be very popular. Oh man, that law kills me. x'D

It's like "You can draw vaginas but you cannot draw penises". Ahah, were they afraid of something? xD

Anyways, I guess coming up with tentacle rape was a nice comeback from hentai mangakas. What you gon do now, government? xD

Stylistically, the era of gigantic glassy eyes in character design (Ranma 1/2 is the best example, but noticed as late as Kanon2006 and the 1st season of Haruhi') is less pleasing to my eyes, and I'm glad anime is moving past that. However, if a series has excellent story (Kanon) then it is only a small distraction.

I like a little of both. I am not not put off by age or style.
